Hampshire encourages self driven inquiry and learning across a multidisciplinary spectrum of studies - all of which I use today as an online marketer. It also helped that they were one of the first schools to offer a "build a website class" in 1994. Hampshire also teaches a skill that as an employer, I see severely lacking in new graduates - the ability to write. Each class at Hampshire requires extensive writing projects and papers, and students write a thesis to graduate. Little did I know how critical those skills would be for me in the working world, and they are skills that have given me a leg up in my career.

Learning at Hampshire College is much more like the experience of any job than anything else I've encountered in my education. Like the actual working world, learning becomes part of the day-to-day process of being a student. I'll have much more to say about this in a future post and I'm happy to discuss my experience at Hampshire with anyone who is interested.

Hampshire College provides incredible freedom and flexibility, as well as structure and support. In "real life," no one will tell you the topic or how many pages to turn in. It is up to us to figure out the project, the questions and the deadline. Hampshire prepares students to take responsibility for their decisions, their own lives and to make a difference in this world
