School Description

Grant MacEwan University, established in 1971 was initially called Grant MacEwan Community College. The College was named in honour of Dr. J.W. (Grant) MacEwan. MacEwan started out with programs in Nursing; Social Worker; Child Care and Psychotechnician and in 1988 it received the approval to offer university transfer programs. The College was renamed Grant MacEwan College in 1999. Five years later MacEwan became an accredited degree-granting institution.

In 2012 MacEwan University was accepted as a member of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC) and a year later was rebranded as MacEwan University although officially the name remains Grant MacEwan University. In 2013 MacEwan University became the 17th member of Canada West Universities Athletics Association. Today McEwan serves over 19,600 students through its undergraduate, Applied Bachelor Degrees, Diploma Courses, Certificate Courses, Credit Projects, University/College Prep, ESL and Non-Credit Programing.
