Furman University - Bachelor's Degree
Furman University is the oldest private university in South Carolina – founded in 1826. The University is named for Richard Furman, a clergyman considered the most important Baptist leader before the Civil War. Furman started out as a men’s academy and theological institute; the theological school however broke away from it in 1858 to become the Southern Baptist Seminary. The College was originally located in Edgefield, South Carolina, but changed locations three times before moving to its present location in the beautiful city on Greenville. In 1953.
Furman broke ties with the South Carolina Baptist Convention in 1992 and become an independent institution. Today Furman offers an outstanding academic program, with top-notch faculty. It also offer visual and performing arts programs, NCAA Division I athletics, and a campus environment that fosters empathy for a diversity of ideas and perspectives. Furman University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award bachelor's, master's and education specialist degrees.
