Conestoga - Technically Strong and Personable

When I started at Conestoga in the fall of 1970, I was a student that did not know exactly what I wanted to do in the future. I had enrolled in a local university but after a short 1 to 2 weeks knew that it was not for me. I soon found myself at the registry office of Conestoga. I was received very openly and, little did I know I would be introduced to a staff member that would become a life time friend. Not just a teacher and course coordinator for Construction Engineering Technology, Arden Mertz became a career mentor. By the time I graduated in 1973, the interaction of Conestoga staff with the local business world had interested a Guelph Engineering company to interview me and other classmates. One week after finishing classes I started working at RWDI in Guelph and began developing my career as a microclimate specialist.. A career I stayed with until my recent retirement.

            Great Opportunities at Conestoga!

I took the Public Relations diploma program from 2008-2010 at Conestoga. I thoroughly enjoyed taking the program and the teachers were all great to work with and learn from. I still keep in touch with them today! The college as a whole offers many opportunities to get involved, including the Student Ambassador program which I was a part of. This gave me the chance to get more involved with the school, meet more students and faculty and help me grow my PR skills by speaking at and attending events and learning more about the college and its programs as I gave tours to new prospective students, their families, alumni and donors. I was also able to work for the Alumni Department after graduation. If you're looking for a college with a great student and staff community and a place that offers many hands-on opportunities through projects and placements, then you should definitely consider attending Conestoga!

Opens Doors to a Great Future!

I attended Conestoga College from 2010 - 2013, enrolled in the Computer Programmer/Analyst program. Conestoga College hired me as a work study student and gave me a job within the area of my study. The work study experience combined with my education has given me a great starting point for a new career. After graduating in 2013 I was offered a job by Conestoga College where I am now a Web/Portal Developer in the Systems Integration and Innovation department. I am very proud of my experiences at Conestoga and would recommend this community to anyone looking to get a jump start in their career.
