Central College, founded in 1853 and located in Pella, Iowa, is a private, residential liberal arts college known for its academic rigor and strength in global learning, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), sustainability education, athletics success and tradition, and leadership.

School Description

The Baptist Convention of Iowa founded Central College of Iowa in 1853 and it officially opened on October 8, 1854. The first class totaled 37 people. Central was a Baptist institution until 1916, when it was transferred to the control of the Reformed Church in America. The Central College has been fully accredited by the North Central Association since 1942. Notable alumni include Harry Smith,reporter for NBC News, former co-host of “CBS This Morning” and former host of A&E’s “Biography”.
