School Description

Allen University was founded by the African Methodist Episcopal Church in 1870. The university is the first in South Carolina that was founded by African Americans, for the purpose of educating African Americans. It was initially established to train students to become ministers and teachers, but it has since expanded to include other academic areas.

Allen University has a main campus located in Columbia, South Carolina. Among the facilities available on campus are 3 residence halls, and the JS Flipper Library. Students also have plenty of opportunities to be active on campus with over 30 clubs and organizations that range in interest from entertainment, to religion.
