I struggled choosing a major; oscillating between Sociology and the sciences, but always staying true to my desires to complete premedicine studies. It was my Organic Chemistry professor who pulled me aside and strongly encouraged me to become one of the few female Chemistry majors. I regretted my choice as I struggled with my PChem required courses. After a GPA damaging exam, I was heart broken. I went to the professor for help. He gave me copies of past exams to practice and to return for tutoring with him. I dutifully worked on the exams, returning to my professor to discuss my answers. His tutoring gave me the confidence to score an unheard of 100% on a PChem exam. I framed and displayed that exam outside my dorm room, for all to see. The skills I learned in this class were once again used in Pharmacy school in my Pharmacokinetics courses, which I also attribute my Allegheny professor for laying the foundation for me to earn an "A". It is the dedication of Allegheny's professors that set the college apart. My professors WANTED me to succeed and gave me the tools to do so.

Full disclosure - I was not a great student, but by the end of my time at Allegheny I had made major strides in becoming an excellent writer, and a pretty good historian. Professors like Jim Bulman, Steve Lyons, Jay Luvaas, and Dean Helmreich were game changers for me. I'm living proof you don't have to be a terrific student to be successful, but you do have to learn and grow as a person. Allegheny was a great place for me to do just that. My only advice to anyone going to college is to understand you never get those years back, so think ahead about how what you're doing today will be remembered and measured by the older version of yourself. College is what you make it, so invest your time wisely in subjects 1) you like, and 2) that will be useful to you as a working adult in 5 - 10 years and beyond. Once you start working in the real world there will likely never be another chance to learn this way again (so don't waste all your time partying). I knew some very strong academic students at Allegheny, but it also offered excellent learning opportunities to Diamond in the Ruff types like yours truly!

The years spent at Allegheny College provided this writer with friendships that have withstood the time. The classes, instructors, and professors shaped my path by challenging me to develop a depth of thought, improving my analytical reasoning, and allowing me to believe that life's obstacles were there to be overcome, not avoided. When you have achieved the status of a graduate of Allegheny College, you enter the "real world" of adulthood with a confidence in the toolbox that you have been given by these friends and academicians
