Augustana College

School Description

Augustana College was founded in 1860 by a group of Swedish settlers who aimed to provide leaders and education for the youth of new Swedish communities at the time. Initially called Augustana College and Theological Seminary, it was among the first of many institutions established by the former Augustana Lutheran Church. Despite the onset of the Civil War—and two more Wolrd Wars after that—the institution managed to flourish and evolved into a nationally recognized college serving students from different states and countries worldwide.

Today, Augustana College's 115-acre of wooded campus is home to approximately 2,500 students enrolled in up to 90 majors in over 60 areas of study related to liberal arts and sciences. The campus also boasts of 5 residence halls for freshmen and sophomore students, and a $1 million PepsiCo Recreation Centre that houses a gymnasium, basketball and volleyball courts, men's and women's locker rooms, lounge, training room, and a weight room among many others.
