Arcadia University traces its roots back to nearly two centuries ago, when it was established in the year 1853 to address public demand for an intellectual outpost in a town that was born out of a former American Revolutionary War post. Almost two decades later, the institution received collegiate status as Beaver College before it finally became the Arcadia University in the year 2000 to represent its enrollment growth and academic expansion over the years.
Today, Arcadia University's Glenside campus sits on 76 acres of land that houses its 6 schools and colleges through which the university offers over 30 undergraduate majors and minors, as well as 15 master's degree programs in areas of arts and sciences, global studies, health sciences, education, and global business. The campus is also home to 5 first-year residence halls in which 77% of its freshmen students live. Arcadia University currently enrolls nearly 4,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students.
