Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (American University)
The four-year BA in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies through the College of Arts and Sciences at American University provides students the opportunity to investigate historical and current topics relevant to gender, sexuality and feminism. The major requires 120 credit hours to graduate, 39 of which are focused on the specific program. An undergraduate minor is available, which requires 18 credit hours or about one year to complete. A graduate certificate of 12 credit hours, or one semester, is also available and can be combined with the BA.
The program is interdisciplinary and encourages critical thinking to face evolving and complex issues surrounding gender, sexuality and feminism today. The program uses a multicultural perspective to examine what gender and sexuality can mean globally. Students may choose a specific area of focus, including the arts, humanities, social sciences or other area approved by advisement. Participants are also expected to complete an internship during the course of study.
