Spanish Studies (American University)
The BA in Spanish Studies at American University offers students the chance to gain an advanced level of spoken and written Spanish language abilities as well as a thorough foundation in the development of Spanish linguistics. Students should expect to earn 120 credit hours over the course of four years, maintaining at least a cumulative GPA of 2.00 in their studies. In order to earn the major in this course, students will also be expected to complete all requirements as stated by the department. Throughout their studies, students will learn the historical events and accomplishments in both Spain and Latin America. The cultural differences and similarities between the areas will manifest in a required internship, as well as compulsory coursework in Latin American society and culture. Additional studies in the anthropological progress and changes in how language relates to culture and the human experience will enhance students’ understanding of the value of Spanish culture.
