Physics (American University)
Students with an interest in physical science may pursue a Bachelor of Science in Physics or a Bachelor of Arts in Physics at American University. Both programs require 120 credits of coursework and may be completed within four years with full-time enrollment.
The Bachelor of Arts degree requires 48 credits in the major, including 36 credit hours in core courses such as calculus, linear algebra, and principles of physics. Graduates can become well-prepared for careers in science education, science policy, and other interdisciplinary careers.
The Bachelor of Science requires 63 credit hours of study with 51 core credits, including courses in electricity, magnetism and quantum mechanics. This degree gives students the option of choosing a track in chemistry, traditional physics, or computational physics, and offers several elective courses.
Completing either program prepares students for graduate school and careers in laboratory research. Both programs require grades of C or better in all in-major coursework. All undergraduate programs require a 3-credit capstone seminar.
