Performing Arts: Theatre (American University)
A degree in theatre is designed to further students’ knowledge of performing arts. Before they can enter the program, participants must complete the undergraduate core curriculum required by American University. After that, students can take a wide variety of different theatre courses, adding up to at least 51 credit hours in order to earn a Performing Arts: Theatre BA.
Core classes for this program focus on many different aspects of the performing arts world. Students learn about theatre history all the way from the Greeks to the present. Participants study performing as well as stage design and the technical aspects that go into it. Before completing the program, they attend a seminar to help them towards their capstone project.
In addition to taking courses, students may participate in the theatre productions put on by the university. They have the opportunity to act, be involved in stage management or work with the technical and design teams.
