Neuroscience (American University)
The Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience program at American University is a 120-credit hour undergraduate degree that gives students a comprehensive knowledge of neurological structures and development, as well as an understanding of the neurological bases for human behavior. Students must complete 76 credits within the major and must earn grades of C or better in all major coursework. Most students should complete the program with four years of full-time study but may spend additional time if enrolled in the combined Bachelor’s/Master’s program. Core courses include foundations in neuroscience, biology, chemistry, and physics. Students must also complete eight credits in basic math and computer science, as well as four credits in statistics. Eight credits of laboratory coursework are also required. Students may choose upper-level electives in biology and psychology, and have the option of completing research, independent reading, and an internship. Completion of the undergraduate degree can prepare students for graduate or professional school, or careers in research and industry.
