French/Europe: Language and Area Studies (American University)
The goal of the BA curriculum in French/Europe: Language and Area Studies at American University is to prepare students with not only an internationally recognized level of French language proficiency, but also a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies of social sciences and the humanities as they relate to modern and historical Europe. Students should prepare for a thorough immersion in political discourse, both on a national level and around the world, in order to succeed in this field. A nuanced grasp of communication between cultures will also be required to recognize and comprehend the delicate balance of development in France and Europe over time. Naturally, the dedication and aptitude for learning the French language will also benefit students, who should be able to pair their language learning alongside discussion of French civilization and culture over time. This course will require 120 credit hours, including a minimum cumulative GPA score of 2.00, in addition to completion of all major requirements over approximately four years.
