Foreign Language and Communication Media (American University)
The BA program in Foreign Language and Communication Media is a joint degree offered by the school of communications and the department of world languages and cultures at American University. The program is ideal for students interested in communications-related careers in foreign countries or in which foreign communication is required.
The program includes basic communications studies, a linguistics course, and three cultural classes of the student’s choice. In addition, students must complete 18 credit hours of upper-division foreign language instruction in a language of their choice other than their native language. Completion of the program also includes one of four specializations from which students can choose: print or broadcast journalism, public relations, or film and media arts.
Admission to this program at American University requires a 2.50 GPA and approval of either the school of communication or the department of world languages. It takes approximately four years to complete the 120 credit hours required for graduation.
