Film and Media Arts (American University)
Students can complete a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art at American University in four years. Of a total 120 credit hours needed, 39 must be from the major area and include two of three classes in art history and drawing. Nine credit hours of introductory courses are also required.
Students may choose three of four classes offered in painting, sculpture, video art and digital photography, where you will learn and explore theories and techniques.
Scholars must also complete 18 credits of advanced studio classes with 15 credits, or five courses, at the 300 level or higher. Advanced courses include painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking and media classes, which include studio work. In addition, students must have three credit hours of cultural content in anthropology, art history, communications, history, literature or philosophy.
Before graduation, students participate in a capstone course that combines studio work, criticism, group discussions and field trips, as well as an exhibition that includes their studio work.
