Environmental Studies (American University)
A BA in Environmental Studies at American University is designed to help students become advocates for nature, the earth, and the environment. This is a four-year program requiring 120 credit hours of class to graduate. Students will study topics such as climatology, water resources, and essential biology for the modern world. Core math classes are also required. Prospective students should have rigorous preparation in calculus and statistics.
In the junior and senior years, students take seminars in contemporary topics that have real-world applications. Seminars in environmental sustainability and global health can include discussions on human geography, the politics of population, and health communication. Students are required to complete three credit hours of experiential learning by completing an independent study project or an internship.
