Computer Science (American University)
The BS computer science program is a four-year program, or 120 credit hours, at American University. To complete the major, participants must finish 55 credit hours, or approximately two years, of study in the program.
The goal of the program is to provide a balanced education in practical and theoretical computer science. Participants may master technologies in a changing field and conduct research in a variety of fields, including, AI, scientific computing, computer architecture and more. With small class sizes, students may expect more one-on-one attention to aid in a better understanding of course material.
The curriculum includes courses in computer systems organization, computer science, programming languages, database management systems and operating systems. Students of this program will have to complete 12 credit hours in a concentration within the computer science field. For instance, computer forensics, game programming, neural sciences, mathematics, government computing, computer graphics design and many other emphases are available.
