Biochemistry (American University)
American University’s four-year BS program in Biochemistry is perfect for students interested in combining studies in biology and chemistry. This degree is great for students who are interested in the chemical processes that govern life. The program also includes plenty of opportunities for laboratory work in both chemistry and biology, as well as an experimental capstone project chosen by the student, with the intent to create work appropriate for publication in scientific journals.
Completion of the degree requires 120 undergraduate credit hours and includes classes in general chemistry, general biology, organic chemistry, molecular biology, genetics, calculus, and physics, in addition to general education requirements. Students can also apply to complete a combined program in which they will receive both their BS in Biochemistry and their MS in Chemistry at the same time. Admission to this program requires a 3.00 GPA or higher, two letters of recommendation, and a statement of purpose.
