Anthropology (American University)
The four-year BA in Anthropology has a requirement of 120 credit hours, or about four years, as required by American University. Requirements for the major include 48 credit hours or a year and a half of study time. Students may take courses in human origins, anthropological theory, culture and history, archaeology and seminars in anthropology. The study of anthropology includes the study of human language, culture, biology and behavior of humans.
Students may choose a variety of directions to take with their anthropology degree. Focuses on sex, gender and culture, science, technology, and health and environmental justice only name a few areas of emphasis that anthropology majors may take.
Those in the anthropology program explore history and culture while honing skills in problem-solving, critical inquiry and public communication. This BA lends itself to careers on community organizing, public service and social advocacy. Students learn the methods to create real progressive change.
