Accounting (American University)
To complete a BS in accounting at American University, students must complete 120 credit hours for this four-year program. To complete the major, there are 65 to 66 credits required. This takes approximately two years to complete in a typical study plan.
The program is designed to meet the needs of students who wish to pursue professional accounting careers in industrial, financial, governmental or public accounting organizations. Participants of the program are provided with the foundation and knowledge to sit for the Uniform CPA Examination. Topics of study include business economics, statistics, analytics, individual income taxation, operations management and international business.
Students receive a foundation in business analytical software, skills in communication, teamwork and presentation skills, along with business writing skills. To complete the program, students must finish advanced-level accounting courses, the Kogod School of Business undergraduate business core and select electives. It’s important for participants of the program to pay special attention to the sequencing of courses.
