Favorite school event:

My favorite school events are when there are stands set up at the university for a bake sale or for information because who doesn't love cakes and free stuff?

Favorite class:

I took an architectural technology class and I loved it because I got to experience a different subject. Another class I really enjoyed was parallel programming because the teacher made it fun and interactive. He really cared about the students, their experience and if they were learning and how much.

What were your school experiences like before university?

I went to a private school in Abu Dhabi called International School of Choueifat – Khalifa City. It was a very difficult school. My parents and I were not on the same page when I graduated from high school as I wanted to study abroad but they wanted me to stay in the UAE. I ended up studying at a university in Abu Dhabi for two years, after which I transferred to Edinburgh Napier University for my sophomore year.

How did you hear about Edinburgh Napier University and what made you decide to study in the UK?

The main reason I chose Edinburgh Napier was because they had the major I was interested in studying and it recently received a new accreditation. I learned about the university after a lot of online research.

Did you have any problems adjusting to life in a new country and university?

It was hard at first to adjust to a new city and a new university. Academically, it was challenging but I like a good challenge. I enjoy learning both theory and practical skills in my classes. Socially, it took me longer to adapt and make friends and it was challenging to find things to do that I enjoy. However, I eventually found a good group of friends and they made it easy for me to have fun and enjoy my time at university.

What were your first few days at Edinburgh Napier University like?

I was very nervous before my first class – I calmed myself down by having some tea before my lecture. Initially, I was very focused on studying and did not experience much of the community life in my first few days. However, there were people all around me that helped me when I was stuck in my classes or labs. I like the campus very much because it has John Napier's house incorporated into it – in fact, it is one of the reasons I chose this university!
