Tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Diego and I’m 20 years old. This is my first year at Santa Barbara City College. I am from Brazil, but I also lived in Italy for almost 9 years, which was an amazing experience.

What were your school experiences like before university?

My high school back in Brazil was amazing – it helped make me a mature person and it helped me a lot in becoming a better student.

How did you hear about the Santa Barbara City College and what made you decide to study in the US?

I always liked the US education system and how it prepares students for life in the future. I was looking for a college that offered a Management major and as soon I saw the pictures and the resources that SBCC offers, I knew I had to choose Santa Barbara.

Did you have any problems adjusting to life in a new country and university?

No, I have not had any issues since I moved here. Since day one, everyone has treated me very well and it has felt like I have found a new home. Everyone has welcomed me like part of a family.

What were your first few days in SBCC like?

Everything was very new to me –a new city, a new country, a new life. The college is beautiful and I found a house near the city’s downtown area, so everything feels great. I feel prepared to face whatever may come in my future, but as everything was so new, I definitely had a mix of feelings. I was very excited to meet my colleagues and start my classes.

What degree are you pursuing and why?

My father is a professional soccer coach in Brazil and I am interested in this also. I am studying management to learn as much as I can before I begin to follow in his footsteps.

What has your academic and social experience been like as an international student at SBCC?

Santa Barbara is different from all the cities that I have visited before. It’s small, but it has a lot of activity and everything you need is close by. The restaurants, the beach – everything is fun and fascinating.

What would you say to international students who are considering studying at Santa Barbara City College?

Since my first day here, SBCC has offered me everything that I need. The school supports its students as much as it can, and not only in the classroom but also socially and regarding personal development. I think this is one of the most important things that the college has to offer… and the views are wonderful!
