Big Rapids, Michigan gives students small-town comforts while providing big-city amenities. The beautiful landscape encourages everyone to get out in nature and go trekking, golfing, or even camping. The nearby Muskegon River is perfect for popular water sports such as tubing, fishing and swimming. And with over 257 acres of land dedicated to parks, the outdoor activities are endless. The historic downtown shopping district has major retailers, an art center, a movie theater and many restaurants.
The Ferris State University campus is sprawled over 935 acres of gorgeous land. There are historic buildings and monuments all interspersed with the university’s learning and recreational facilities. The FSU campus is usually teeming with many activities and students can always find something to do – be it attending concerts, watching comedy shows, listening to guest speakers or spectating a sports match. There are also 15 different residence halls ranging from dormitories and suites to apartments that have all essential facilities and easy access to the dining halls.

Some of its in-demand and specialized programs include Digital Animation and Game Design, Information Security and Intelligence, Health Information Management, HVACR Engineering Technology & Energy Management, and Plastics Engineering Technology.

FSU offers internships, competitions, networking opportunities and industry advisory boards to make sure students develop relevant skills and important knowledge. Seventy percent of Ferris State students participate in internships related to their majors and enter the job market with a marked advantage.
Ferris State University partners with industry leaders for networking opportunities, program direction, and state-of-the-art lab equipment and technology. Some examples include the College of Pharmacy Center for Innovation Learning and Research, Information Security and Intelligence Digital Forensics Lab, Molecular Diagnostics Lab, and the Television and Digital Media Production Studio.

Ferris State has support services and resources to help students throughout their time at the university. Premier support resources include:

- Academic Support Center – Provides free tutoring sessions and advice on study skills.
- Writing Center – Helps improve students’ written communication skills.
- Structured Learning Assistance Program – Provides extra assistance in numerous different courses.
- Center for Leadership Activities and Career Services – Supports students in finding internships and planning their careers.
International students can count on the Office of International Education to provide a comprehensive orientation that includes airport pick-up, move-in assistance, shopping trips, and course advisement. This office is the primary resource for immigration services, international student support, and cultural activities.
Be a Bulldog with FSU Athletics!
The Ferris State Bulldogs are known for their excellent athletic programs. Ferris State boasts a nationally ranked NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Team and highly competitive NCAA Division II men’s and women’s varsity teams that compete in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The men’s basketball team is the NCAA Division II National Champions after an amazing 2017-2018 season.
Students can also join the many sports clubs or intramural teams offered on campus. Compete against other colleges and universities in baseball, disc sports, equestrian sports, lacrosse, rugby, volleyball and much more. Each year, more than 2,000 students, faculty and staff members compete against each other, regardless of skill level, through a variety of intramural teams.
Ferris State University is pleased to offer Woodbridge N. Ferris Scholarship opportunities for students entering college for the first time. These scholarships are automatically awarded to international students who fulfill the academic requirements.
Scholarship amounts are determined by evaluating both a student’s high school grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale and a submitted score from either the ACT or SAT. Amounts range from USD $1,500 to USD $12,630 per year.
If you are an international student who is transferring to Ferris State University, you may be eligible for the International Transfer Scholarship. Students with a 3.3 cumulative transfer GPA and 12 accepted credit hours are eligible to receive USD $5,500 per year.
