International Year One courses enable you to complete your undergraduate degree in the standard amount of time while also receiving extra academic and English language support.
11 July 2018
Are you an international student excited about going to university in the UK or US but do not meet the undergraduate entry requirements? The International Year One (IYO) program has been created for students in this exact situation. IYO enables students to gain the knowledge necessary to obtain admission to a UK or US university and be ready and equipped for their future academic studies.
What is an International Year One Program?
The International Year One course is a program for international students that is equivalent to the first year of a UK/US undergraduate degree. It has been specially structured for students who have completed their A Levels, a high school diploma, an International Foundation Program, or their first year of university in their home country, but do not meet the UK or US university academic or language requirements.
The program consists of one to four terms and it prepares students for university life by offering courses similar to those at a regular UK/US university along with additional academic and English support. Students who successfully complete the IYO can advance directly to their second year of an undergraduate degree program in participating schools.
IYO programs are based in specialized study centers located within major universities across the UK and the US, however, IYO students are also integrated into many regular university classes as part of their program. Students enrolled in an IYO program have the added benefit of full access to university facilities and services, just like other university students.
Various scholarships are also available to students who cannot afford the tuition and living expenses of the IYO program.
IYO Student Benefits
There are many reasons why the International Year One program is an exciting option for overseas students. Through the program, students receive conditional admission offers from universities to begin their second year of undergraduate study.
By attending an IYO program, international students can receive extra support while also still completing their undergraduate degree in the same amount of time as mainstream students.
The International Year One program offers English language support to help students increase their knowledge and confidence in the language and be prepared for mainstream undergraduate study. The program also consists of comprehensive academic preparation as the teaching curriculum mirrors standard teaching courses in the UK and US as per the chosen degree.
IYO students enjoy university-style teaching but with smaller class sizes and more direct contact with teachers and professors, thereby augmenting the learning experience. The program also helps students develop and enhance their study and research skills to better prepare them for university life.
All these factors help international students achieve an easy and successful transition into UK and US undergraduate academic and social life.

step in your journey to studying at a university abroad.
02
Upload documents
The documents you upload will help us determine if we can support you in your goal of studying at a university
abroad. You will need to pay a SchoolApply admin fee in order to move on to step 3.
03
Meet your advisor
Your very own advisor will guide you through the Application Journey. At step 3, you will call your advisor so
you can express what is important to you and they can tell you about your options. After the call, your advisor
will send you a list of universities you can apply to.
04
Start application
With SchoolApply, you only need to create one application; your advisor will submit it to the universities for
you. For your application, you will need to include your academic history, English and entrance exam results,
an essay and reference letters. You will also pay an application fee to each university through SchoolApply.
05
Submit application
Your advisor will review the things you uploaded in step 4 and will submit your completed application to the universities
