Tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Ali Al Hammadi and I am from the United Arab Emirates. I’m 36 years old and I’m in the final year of my studies abroad. Since 2006, I have been working in the field of Supply chain, Procurement, Contracts, Logistics, and Materials Management.

I have had the experience of working, coordinating and leading in this field for many years. I have had the good luck of working in multiple internationally acclaimed organizations like DP World and Mubadala Aerospace (STRATA) before joining ADNOC Group. And now, I am pursuing my Doctorate in Supply Chain Management (PhD) so I can take my Supply Chain skills to the next level.

Did you have any problems adjusting to life in a new country and university?

No, I completed my bachelor’s degree here in Australia so the country always feels like home to me. There is a small UAE national community here along with a lot of Arabs from the GCC countries which makes it feel a bit like home as we share a common language and culture.

What degree are you pursuing?

I am pursuing my PhD in Supply Chain. I am doing this course because I am currently the Head of Department – Supply Chain in ADNOC in the UAE and would like to enhance the current supply chain systems within the organization and make it one of the best in the world. I felt that the best universities focusing on Supply Chain were in Australia and hence, I decided to pursue my education here.

What has your experience been like as an international student at USQ?

USQ has been very supportive, warm and accepting of me. They have made me feel just like one of the local students, which I believe is an important element in an international student’s education. Usually, one finds it difficult to merge with the local crowd but Toowoomba is a small town where students meet all together and have a good time. There are also many shopping options, cinemas, gym and other facilities which are utilized by the students.

What are your plans after you graduate?

I would like to go back to the UAE and invest my time and education in enhancing the Supply Chain processes within my country.

What would you say to international students who are considering studying at University of Southern Queensland?

Here are just some of my reasons as to why I think that international students should choose USQ for their overseas education: the high quality of education, their global approach to every process, how they make all international students feel accepted, there is no racial discrimination, a multi-cultural faculty and the best student support services.

I have been enlightened by the professionalism and respect that the university has taught me which I will take along with me in my life. Overall, my experience has been life-changing and I will always be happy that USQ has helped me achieve my dreams.
