LeTourneau University is a private, interdenominational Christian university located in the state of Texas in the United States. A largely technical school, LeTourneau offers programs in engineering, aeronautical science, education, business, and nursing. The university has an extensive online program and also has satellite campuses in Dallas and Houston.

LeTourneau University’s main campus is located in Longview, Texas in the United States. The university’s 162-acre campus is about two hours east of Dallas, Texas and one hour west of Shreveport, Louisiana.

The city of Longview has a population of 82,000 residents and it has been noted as the sixth fastest growing small city in the United States. Longview lies in an area known as East Texas, demarcated from the rest of the state primarily by dense pine forests. Longview has many opportunities for shopping, dining and enjoying the great outdoors. The surrounding area boasts beautiful forests and many lakes where students can enjoy hiking, boating, canoeing, fishing and much more.   

The LeTourneau campus is made up of ten academic buildings, fully-equipped with the latest technology and wireless internet access. There are also 15 different on-campus living residences plus the S.E. Belcher, Jr. Chapel and Performance Center where many concerts and shows are held.

International Student Support

Over 10% of LeTourneau University’s student population come from 30 different countries from around the world. The school welcomes more and more international students every year and is sensitive to the unique challenges that overseas students may face in a new country.

Overseas students are welcomed at the airport or train station upon arrival, and a special international student orientation is held so students can meet the international student support staff and other international students. The university staff supports overseas students by helping them obtain the necessities for their dorm rooms, set up bank accounts, and select courses for each semester.

Le Tourneau also has an English as a Second Language (ESL) program where they help international students improve their English speaking and writing skills while also providing useful information on American culture and traditions.

Global Connections

LeTourneau University offers many exciting global learning opportunities. They accept many international students to the university, enjoy an extensive Study abroad Program, and also offer opportunities to participate in Global Service Learning projects. The Office of Global Initiatives encourages students to step out of their comfort zones and experience life in other countries. Through its impressive Study Abroad Programs, LeTourneau engineering students have designed small-plot irrigation systems in Kenya and created off-road wheelchairs in Guatemala. The program actively supports the disadvantaged and aims to make positive impact on the world.  

Cultural immersion programs, international internships, and overseas service opportunities are just some of the ways that LeTourneau expands students’ knowledge and horizons.

The world renowned U.S. News & World Report ranked LeTourneau #4 among regional universities in the West in their “Great Schools, Great Prices” category and 27th in their “Best Regional Universities in the Western Region” in 2017. This marks the 23rd year that the university has ranked in the top tier of this classification.

U.S. News & World Report also places LeTourneau’s Engineering Program as one of the best in the United States in 31st place. This ranking is out of over 200 ABET-accredited engineering schools across the country whose highest degree is a bachelor’s or master’s degree.

Over 78% of the 90 full-time faculty members hold their doctorate or the highest degree in their field. The well-established professors are given ample opportunity to get to know their students with average class sizes of 15 students.

School of Engineering

The university’s founder, R.G. LeTourneau, was a world-renowned engineer and inventor. His legacy of engineering excellence has continued at LeTourneau University’s School of Engineering, where students are given inter-disciplinary learning, hands-on laboratory time, and opportunities for global research. The school offers three ABET accredited undergraduate degrees with 11 concentrations and two master’s degrees with five specialisations.

The university offers unique opportunities like a 4+1 Chemical Engineering Master’s degree (4 years undergraduate + 1 year graduate) that includes two paid internships and it is also home to one of three ABET accredited Materials-Joining Engineering programs in the United States.  

Here are some fun facts  - all engineering students build and use their own 3D printers and the LeTourneau University’s School of Engineering holds a Guinness Book World Record for the most 3D printers printing in the same room at the same time!
