Study in the Gateway to the West
Fontbonne University is situated in beautiful Clayton, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis, where students will find plenty to explore and experience in the nearby area. Culture, art, music, dining, and shopping – the St. Louis metropolitan area has this all and more! It is no wonder the city has been ranked as the #1 happiest city for college graduates by Forbes.
St. Louis is a vibrant city, home to over 2.9 million people, with a warm, student-friendly environment. Just a couple of miles away from Fontbonne, students can discover the sprawling Forest Park (larger than New York’s Central Park) and visit the Missouri History Museum, St. Louis Art Museum, St. Louis Zoo, and The Muny – America’s oldest and largest outdoor musical theatre. The Delmar Loop caters directly to students in the University City area by offering funky shops, amazing night-life, and live-music events. Soulard is another infamous area of St. Louis, as it is home to one of the largest Mardi Gras celebrations outside of New Orleans. The residents of St. Louis are also passionate about their local athletic teams, so it is easy for students to get caught up in the sports action when cheering on the St. Louis Blues ice hockey team or the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.
The Missouri area is blessed with natural beauty also, so if students want to experience some outdoor fun, there are plenty of places to go. They can choose from one of the many state parks to visit where hiking, swimming, rafting, and fishing are all popular pastimes.
Fontbonne also offers the TELOS honours program – a holistic, customised program for motivated students to work towards identifying their gifts and talents and how they can serve those who need it most in the world.
International Student Support
Over 11% of Fontbonne students are international students representing 28 different countries. The university is popular among overseas students as they offer excellent academic and learning options along with great support from the Career Development apartment – 92% of undergraduates enter careers after graduation.
The Office of International Affairs works hard to help international students with all their needs and queries. International student advisors are available for students to answer questions about student visas, finances, and course selection. The Intensive English Program (IEP) is also a wonderful program for overseas students who need to improve their English skills. The IEP program includes writing, reading, grammar, listening, and speaking all taught through student-centered activities from highly qualified instructors.
Fontbonne University has a long-standing tradition of inspiring students to serve local, national, and international communities through volunteer opportunities. The strong values of the founding Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet have not been lost – integrity, respect, diversity, community and service are actively encouraged and practised even now, 350 years after the formation of the school. The Department of Service, Diversity, and Social Justice works hard to provide students with learning, leadership, and civic engagement opportunities through internships, volunteer-work, and student organisations.
Fontbonne Day is an annual event held at the university where for one day each school year, the school closes so that faculty, staff and students have time to serve the local community. Every student has an interest or talent that they can share for the greater good, be it by playing a musical instrument or having a talent with computers, and Fontbonne University nurtures and cultivates this spirit in its students.
Outstanding Faculty and Programs
With 1,526 students, Fontbonne University has a close-knit campus community where students have direct access to faculty and staff. The student to faculty ratio is 10:1, fostering a warm, nurturing environment for students.
