Concordia University Wisconsin: Supporting students from start to finish
CUW offers students a safe and engaging college experience in a small-town environment.
Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) is a private, liberal arts college in the United States that caters to the academic and social needs of all its students, including those who have arrived from overseas. The university is especially proud of its successful International Program, and the 523 international students that studied there last year, representing 34 different countries.
Get Involved On Campus
There are many ways that international students can make themselves feel at home at Concordia. The university offers numerous organisations that help overseas students meet and connect with American students, as well as fellow international students. CUW organises weekly CHAT (Conversations Happen All the Time) events that bring both American, and international students together.
There are also many other student organisations and groups available on campus. International Students may enjoy the Asian Culture Club, Ni Hao Chinese Club or the Saudi Students Club. In addition to organisations and clubs, students can participate in intramural sports, and activities such as volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, yoga, pep band, or volunteering.

Concordia's English Language Institute
The staff and faculty at CUW understand that English can be challenging in mainstream university classes. Concordia’s English Language Institute (ELI) helps international students strengthen their communication skills, and also transition into American life. If students are eager to study in the United States, but fear their English-language skills may hold them back in the classroom, CUW’s ELI program is the vital connection point to participating in full-time university classes. ELI staff are friendly and professional – they understand the issues that international students face moving to a new country, and they strive to guide, and encourage all ELI students on their academic and social journey at Concordia.
Academic Assistance Outside The Classroom
The student services available at Concordia University Wisconsin are designed to offer maximum support to all students. Academic help can be found at the Learning Resource Center (LRC), which houses the Writing Center, Online Writing Lab, and Supplemental Instruction classes. If students need help writing a paper, or are struggling in certain classes, the LRC on campus is the place to go, to seek tutors and advice.
Guidance and Advice
It can be challenging for any student to familiarise themselves with a university’s processes and procedures. Understanding this, Concordia University Wisconsin assigns a personal advisor to each student at the beginning of their first semester to help them make decisions about which classes to take, and when to take them. In addition to this, the Concordia International Center (CIC) specifically handles information and issues pertaining directly to international students, such as visa requirements and housing options.
Concordia’s International Program is dedicated to overseas students; it provides them the opportunity to study in the university’s School of Arts & Sciences, School of Business, School of Education, School of Health Professions, School of Nursing, or School of Pharmacy. The staff at CUW are dedicated to helping each and every international student achieve their academic goals and they are always available to help students navigate their way through all university processes with ease.
Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) is located in the city of Mequon, Wisconsin, in the United States. The university has a beautiful 192-acre campus situated on the shores of Lake Michigan. Mequon is a safe, small community that is conveniently located only 20 minutes away from Milwaukee, the largest city in the state, and 1.5 hours away from Chicago, Illinois.
Milwaukee offers exposure to big city attractions like the Milwaukee Art Museum, professional baseball games, vibrant nightlife, restaurants, and events. Overseas students are still guaranteed a taste of authentic small-town American life, as Mequon has many parks and nature reserves where they can enjoy picturesque walking trails, and fun water activities.
Although Wisconsin winters can hit below-freezing temperatures, students will be glad to know that CUW’s entire campus is connected by miles of heated indoor tunnels for the convenience of all its students.
