The Appeal of a Political Science Degree
Mohammad Al Onaizi delves into benefits of earning a degree in political science.
The United States Presidential election… if you are sick and tired of hearing about it then move on to the next blog. But if you find yourself glued to every news story that comes out about the two candidates, then I want to take a guess and say that politics might be something that interests you. Politics and politicians tend to be viewed in a bad light, but I can attest to you that the world of politics is an intriguing minefield. My dad is a retired diplomat, and believe me when I tell you, I can write a book about my experiences of being the son of a diplomat. I have met dignitaries, presidents, and royalty. And I even know of a few secret conversations that no soul knows about! Intrigued? The world of politics can be an ugly place, but if you can get past the nasty stuff that comes with being a politician, there are many benefits that not only you, but your family will enjoy. I will list those benefits first, then I will tell you which schools you can go to, to earn a Political Science degree and become a politician.
Diplomatic Passport
I am starting out with this because who doesn’t hate the hassle that comes with travelling? Long lines, hours of waiting, lost luggage, the whole baggage (no pun intended) that comes with travelling can certainly drive someone crazy. I don’t want to brag, but for 26 years, I never bothered with all that stuff. I never waited in line, never waited to pick my bag, and I got to relax in some of the best lounges in many airports around the world. Why? Because my dad was a diplomat, and I had a diplomatic passport. There was always someone doing the check in for me, and even picking up my bags and getting my passport stamped. So, thanks dad!
Chance to Travel the World
With that diplomatic passport, you have the chance to travel to places you never dreamed of visiting. I will just give you a short list of countries i have visited: the Netherlands, Jordan, Venezuela, Bulgaria, Portugal, Yemen (yes Yemen), and a little island called Curacao.
Variety of Jobs
My dad was an ambassador, but a politician can be anything from working in the government, parliament, or an embassy. And if you just want to report on politics, then you can be in media as an analyst or writer covering politics. A very interesting option is becoming a speech writer, which basically means you will write speeches for politicians. Imagine the sense of pride you will feel when you see a president giving a speech in front of millions and thinking to yourself, I wrote that!
